Arianna Palma is very visible on the front line and equally active behind the scenes at St. Vincent. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of several critical functions, Arianna is the Clinic Director and Director of Provider Services, and also the Front Desk Manager.
In her roles she puts policies and procedures in place, looks critically at how things can run better, does staff and provider scheduling, medical records and prior authorizations. She’s the scheduler and greeter at the front desk, working on patient appointments, verifications and other administrative details to make the patient experience seamless. As a Certified Medical Assistant, often it is Arianna who collects vital signs and labs from patients.
It takes a unique and energetic multi-tasker to accomplish these various and seemingly disparate functions. Many say she’s the glue that holds the St. Vincent clinic together, with her deep experience in administration, operations and even patient care.
“I couldn’t do what I do without my amazing clinic team, providers, MAs, front desk. Everyone gives it 100 percent,” says Arianna. “Plus, I’m blessed I knew at a young age that healthcare was my calling.”
In high school in Fort Morgan, Colorado, she took advantage of a dual studies program with Morgan Community College. There, she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential, volunteered at the local hospital and started interpreting for patients and providers. English is Arianna’s second language; she moved to the US from Mexico City at age two.
Arianna continued to expand her career with roles in public health, medical interpreting, administration, and patient care at mid- to large-size hospital systems before landing in Leadville. She discovered a special kinship at St. Vincent, with its like-minded team of professionals.
“I like being busy, that’s always been my motivator. No day is ever the same,” she says. “Here, everyone wears multiple hats. Like when our CEO jumps in and works alongside everyone else when there’s an emergency.”
Arianna has plans in motion to begin the administration management curriculum at Southern Columbia University in fall 2020, to continue to hone her knowledge base and skills. And when she isn’t working at St. Vincent, you will likely find her cheering on her kids at their athletic events. “They’re in every sport you can think of. Hockey, soccer, volleyball, basketball,” she says. “And when we’re not doing that, we’re hiking and biking.”
